Boston Common American Flags To Be Removed, Volunteers Needed

More than 37,000 flags will be removed Tuesday afternoon.

BOSTON, MA – Volunteers are needed to help dismantle the Memorial Day flag garden at the Boston Common. The flag removal was postponed to Tuesday so as not to damage the wet flags after Monday's weather.

Last week, more than 600 people planted 37,251 flags at the Common – one for each Massachusetts resident who died in service of the United States. Fewer volunteers are needed today to remove the flags.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the display on the Boston Common at 12:30 p.m. today. The display is located next to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument near Charles and Beacon Street.
