The defendant was reportedly was a member of Cameron Street, a gang based largely in Dorchester involved in illegal drug and gun activity.

BOSTON, MA — A man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in a gang-related murder in Brockton, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts.

Takari Elliott, also known as “T-Paper,” 34, of Boston, was sentenced Tuesday, Oct. 20, by U.S. District Judge Julia Kobick to 20 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Elliott pleaded guilty in February to conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise involving murder. He was among 22 defendants charged in May 2023.

According to prosecutors, Elliott was a member of Cameron Street, a gang based largely in Dorchester whose members used firearms to murder and assault rivals and protect drugs and drug proceeds. Elliott admitted participating in the October 2020 murder of Manuel Duarte, also known as “Brava.”

Throughout the day of the murder, Elliott communicated with Duarte over Snapchat and urged him to meet at an address in Brockton for a drug deal. Another Cameron Street member, who has since died, rented a car in Boston and drove to Brockton, where he picked up Elliott before the pair met Duarte at a home.

Once there, a fellow gang member emerged from the backyard and shot Duarte 10 times, killing him, according to prosecutors. The shooter fled to Boston in the rental car, while others picked up Elliott near the scene.

Prosecutors said evidence showed Elliott and another Cameron Street member were paid $60,000 to murder Duarte and split the proceeds.

Elliott was on supervised release from a previous federal drug trafficking conviction at the time of the murder. Kobick also sentenced him to two years in prison for violating the conditions of his release, with that sentence running concurrently with the 20-year prison term.

Elliott's involvement with Cameron Street dated back to at least January 2011, when he was arrested in a car near Cameron Street with other gang members. He was found in possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and masks and was later convicted and sentenced to three years in prison for that offense.
