Boston Globe Raising Prices To Highest In U.S.: BBJ

The Boston Globe is set to become the priciest regional paper in the United States. The paper is increasing prices as much as 80 percent for some subscribers, the Boston Business Journal reported Tuesday.

The BBJ reported some subscribers were notified last week that their weekly tab for their Globe would cost $19.70, but a customer service representative told the BBJ Tuesday that Globe plans to eventually boost its seven-day home delivery cost to $25.90 per week for readers in the Boston metro area. There was no word on when the increases would take effect.

The Globe, in lockstep with the majority of legacy media outlets, have put all their eggs in the digital basket in recent years. News of the Globe's price increase comes not long after longtime competitor The Boston Herald was sold to Digital First Media for a $12 million package. Digital First, located in Denver, is expected to make deep cuts.
