Boston Logan Named TSA’s 2018 Airport Of The Year

It had the fastest security lines, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

BOSTON, MA — If you think Logan's security line is bad, just go to another airport. In fact, any other airport for comparison. According to the Transportation Security Administration Logan Airport is its airport of the year for 2018 in part for how fast it shuffles visitors through the security line.

The TSA said out of all US airports Boston had the quickest security lines this summer with an average of 9.58 minutes during the busy summer season.

“The TSA team here in Boston consists of nearly 1,500 employees ... who work together every single day of the year to ensure that we protect the traveling public to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce,” said TSA’s Federal Security Director for Massachusetts Bob Allison in a statement.

TSA selected Logan as an “Innovation Airport” in 2018, making the airport eligible to (ahem) pilot new programs. And Logan became the second airport to deploy a computed tomography scanning system in the security checkpoint.

TSA officers at Boston detected a record number of firearms at the airport from October 2017 to September 2018, a 35.7 percent increase from the 14 detected in the same period the year before, according to officials.

Earlier this year Logan set a record for the number of people screened in one day: 75,620 travelers in a single day. April 13 marked the busiest day at Logan in TSA history and represented an 8.8 percent jump from the previous high day of 69,505, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
