Boston Man In Wheelchair Killed In Collision With Cement Truck

The victim, Fernando R. Pizarro​, previously lived at a Boston homeless shelter, police said.

BOSTON, MA — A 57-year-old man in a wheelchair is dead following a collision with a concrete truck in Boston Tuesday morning, Massachusetts State Police said Wednesday.

The victim, Fernando R. Pizarro, was in his wheelchair and moving in and around stopped vehicles at the intersection of Traveler Street and Frontage Road when the cars began to move and the truck stuck him, according to investigators.

Pizarro, who previously lived at a Boston homeless shelter, died at the scene, police said. The truck driver, a 53-year-old Medford man driving a vehicle owned by Boston Sand and Gravel, was taken to the hospital with "possible minor injuries."

The truck driver and Boston Sand and Gravel representatives have been cooperative with investigators and there is not yet any "evidence to suggest impairment or distraction on the driver's part," according to police.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
