Boston Marathon 2023: Road Closures, Start Time, Route, Weather

The 127th Boston Marathon Boston​ will span Hopkinton to Boston today, with 30,000 entrants from 122 countries and all 50 states.

BOSTON, MA — The 127th Boston Marathon Boston is underway, with 30,000 entrants from 122 countries and all 50 U.S. states making the 26.2-mile trip from Hopkinton to Boston.

Here's what you need to know about this year's event, from the race's start time to the route and day-of weather.

Boston Marathon 2023 Route

The Boston Marathon course starts in Hopkinton and ends on Boylston Street in Boston, with runners passing through Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, and Brookline along the way.

The race travels along Route 135 until Wellesley, where the race moves to Route 16. That means the race will effectively cut MetroWest area in two for most of the day Monday.

Boston Marathon 2023 Fan Fest

Free, open to the public, and located steps from the finish line at Copley Square Park, Fan Fest is what the B.A.A. describes as "the place to soak in the race-week atmosphere and have fun as you gear up for race day."

Fan Fest features appearances by Boston Marathon champions, live music, activities, and a final race clinic.

Fan Fest Hours:

  • Friday, April 14: Noon–8 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 15: 10 a.m. –8 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 16: 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

There are also closures in all the towns between Hopkinton and Boston, including Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton and Brookline. There will also be adjacent closures affecting towns like Milford and Wayland.

How To Watch The 2023 Boston Marathon

The 2023 Boston Marathon will be televised on ESPN from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on race day.

WCVB is carrying the race locally, with coverage beginning at 4 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

The race can also be streamed on Very Local Boston.

Boston Marathon 2023 Weather

Accuweather is predicting mostly cloudy skies on race day, with showers likely after 11 a.m. The high is predicted near 62 by midday with a chance of precipitation 60 percent.
