Boston Police Rescue Stranded Groom, Save Couple's Wedding
Hannah Mahoney was waiting on Thompson Island for her groom when the ferry carrying him broke down in Boston Harbor.

BOSTON, MA — Patrick and Hannah Mahoney were able to have the wedding of their dreams last weekend with help from an unexpected group of people: officers with the Boston Police Department's harbor patrol unit.
Patrick and Hannah Mahoney's wedding was scheduled for Saturday on Thompson Island, located in the middle of Boston Harbor. Hannah waited for her groom on the island, and all was well until the ferry taking Patrick to his bride broke down, police said in a post on Facebook.
The wedding wasn't just threatened by a missing groom. Several other members of the wedding party, the photographer, the DJ, and the flowers were also stuck on the mainland, police said.

That's when the harbor patrol unit stepped in to avert matrimonial disaster.
Joe Matthews was among the officers who transported more than a dozen people to the island on his police boat so the wedding could go on as planned. With Matthews' help, Patrick and 13 others were delivered to Thompson Island 17 minutes late but still in time for the wedding.

"It feels good," Matthews, who joined the department in 2005, told the Boston Globe. "My wedding day was the best day of my life. ... They were just very appreciative [and] nice kids, very happy to be married here."
Patrick and Hannah were grateful and even took a moment to snap a photo with Matthews.
"We would have just been a bunch of girls sitting on the island and waiting around," Hannah told the Globe. "I'm very thankful and really appreciate what they did."
