May is National Women’s Health Awareness Month—a time to celebrate and be inspired by women who have shaped our lives and work. One of those inspirations for us is Chef Nancy Silverton. Maura has been cooking from Nancy’s books since Desserts from Campanile and La Brea Bakery, around the time she began her baking career. Like so many bakers, she was captivated by Nancy’s appearance on Baking with Julia, where her brioche tart famously brought Julia Child to tears. Nancy’s most recent book, The Cookie That Changed My Life, reflects her approach to perfecting familiar recipes—the same philosophy that has guided Maura’s own work over the years. In this class, Maura will demonstrate a selection of Nancy-inspired favorites, including the iconic brioche tart, cornbread with honey butter, and summer camp coffee cake. We’ll also make her chocolate fudge—one of the first recipes Maura remembers tackling, and one that continues to inspire her to this day.
All proceeds from this class will benefit Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, supporting their mission to fund prevention and treatment research.
A note about our dessert classes: Along with the recipes above, you’ll enjoy a light savory meal. And when your sweet tooth is satisfied, we’ll send you home with plenty to enjoy later.
