Chameleon Arts Ensemble – Things Seen Right-to-Left: Satie, Vaughan Williams, Brown, Esmail, Ravel

Chameleon closes its 28th season with a phantastic trip down the rabbit-hole where up is down, black is white, and left is right. Vaughan Williams’ Phantasy string quintet is a vivid, impressionist daydream of the English countryside, and Reena Esmail’s Jhula, Jhule for clarinet and piano is a tapestry of sound and memory from her ancestral home. Michael Stephen Brown’s The Lotos-Eaters brings Tennyson’s mariners and their psychedelic voyage to life, while Erik Satie’s offers a topsy-turvy viewpoint with Things seen right-to-left (without glasses) for violin and piano. Finally, Ravel the illusionist challenges our perceptions with his Piano Trio – a dazzling tour de force of color and texture.
