Coronavirus: Lyft Offers Free Rides To Boston Non-profit Workers
Lyft is partnering with Boston-area non-profits to give staff and volunteers free rides.
BOSTON, MA — Lyft is partnering with some Boston non-profits to give staff and employees at essential services free rides. The rideshare company is partnering with Women’s Lunch Place, World Central Kitchen, the Greater Boston Food Bank and Transition House, to provide access to transportation for essential workers, low-income families, and other communities in need in Boston during the coronavirus pandemic.
The partnerships are initiatives through LyftUp, Lyft’s effort to expand transportation access to those who need it most. Lyft also launched efforts in collaboration with public health entities, local governments, nonprofits and community organizations to create new opportunities for drivers, provide rides to those in need, and help distribute essential goods during the COVID-19 situation.
“This program from Lyft will provide assistance to our residents who need help the most, and I thank them for being a partner in our work to stop the spread of COVID-19,” said Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.

Chloe Kimball from Women’s Lunch Place, said the organization has seen its operational costs increase with the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Thanks to Lyft, we are able to get our staff to work safely and focus on what's important - serving Boston's most vulnerable women," Kimball said.
Lyft did not specify how long the free rides would be offered but said it is providing continuous updates on its website.
