EdVestors Names Marinell Rousmaniere as New CEO
Rousmaniere brings over 20 years of experience in the education and youth development field in Boston to her new role

(BOSTON) February 7, 2019 – EdVestors, a school improvement nonprofit in Boston, is pleased to announce Marinell Rousmaniere as its new President & CEO. Marinell had been serving as EdVestors’ interim leader since former President & CEO Laura Perille stepped down to become the Interim Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools.
“Marinell has been invaluable to EdVestors and its mission since she joined the organization nearly ten years ago,” said Wendell Knox, EdVestors’ Board Chairman. “She led the organization’s groundbreaking work to implement a partnership with the Boston Public School system to expand arts education. She has been instrumental in EdVestors’ work to strengthen student math learning outcomes in the city and broaden career and technical education opportunities. Marinell brings terrific skills as well as a deep understanding of the organization and the city’s educational landscape that will serve to further EdVestors’ impact.”
Before being appointed Acting CEO, Marinell served as EdVestors’ Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives where she oversaw the organization’s key programs, communications, and policy. Marinell brings over 20 years of experience in the education and youth development field in Boston to her new role. Prior to joining EdVestors, she served as Executive Director of MYTOWN, a creative youth development organization connecting teens to Boston’s diverse history. Marinell was also a senior staff member in former Mayor Menino’s first in the nation initiative focused on out-of-school time.

“EdVestors has been an important partner with public schools in Boston and the city’s nonprofit sector to effect change at the school and system level,” said Alex Oliver-Dávila Executive Director of Sociedad Latina and Vice Chair of the Boston School Committee. “In addition to funding programs, EdVestors provides on-the-ground implementation support and expertise to help close opportunity and achievement gaps for young people in Boston. I know this will continue with Marinell’s leadership.”
Since its founding in 2002, EdVestors has raised and invested $29 million in school improvement efforts in Boston. EdVestors seeds promising ideas through the School Solutions Seed Fund, which awards investments of $5,000 to $10,000 to support problem-solving, experimentation and innovation in schools.
EdVestors shines a spotlight on school improvement through the School on the Move Prize, awarding $100,000 each fall to a Boston Public School that has made significant progress for its students. Through the Prize, EdVestors seeks to understand how and why certain schools are able to accelerate student achievement and shares an in-depth case study with schools citywide to help replicate successful strategies that work.
EdVestors scales efforts to close opportunity and achievement gaps through three strategic initiatives: Boston Public Schools Arts Expansion, Zeroing in on Math, and Career and Technical Education.
BPS Arts Expansion is a public-private partnership that involves a large and coordinated network of partners, including schools, arts organizations, local and national foundations, colleges and universities, and the Mayor’s office, among others. Since its inception, the percentage of BPS pre-K-8th grade students receiving a minimum of weekly, year-long arts instruction or its equivalent increased from 67 percent to 96 percent. There are now 80 percent more arts teachers working with 65 community arts partners providing arts instruction to more than 17,000 students annually compared to eight years ago.
Zeroing in on Math (ZioM) involves 140 teachers at 19 schools working to dramatically improve student achievement in middle grades math and develop teacher-led solutions with potential for scale. ZioM currently reaches approximately 3,800 students. Early results are encouraging: students averaged gains in math knowledge and skills of 1.3 grade levels vs. the expected one year of growth (as measured by the STAR Assessment).
EdVestors is also partnering with the district to assist high schools to plan and develop new Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways, and deepen the quality of existing CTE pathways in Boston schools. At the district-level, EdVestors is partnering with key stakeholders to develop a blueprint for implementation of high-quality CTE pathways across the district.
