Flushing Flashy Sneakers Bites Alleged Robber

Upon learning detectives intended on seizing his lime-green, blue, and yellow sneakers, Randy Broxton allegedly hatched a plan.

BOSTON, MA - Sitting in prison, Randy Broxton was already in a tough situation. His next decision really clogged things up.

Broxton, 30, of Roxbury, was arraigned Thursday in Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of armed robbery while masked in relation to a Dec. 27 robbery of a Dudley Street market, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office said in a release.

Broxton had already been in prison since Dec. 30, when he was arrested on breaking and entering charges in South Boston. He had his open bail revoked from the alleged robbery just four days earlier and was put in custody. At the time, he was also wearing “distinctive lime-green, blue, and yellow sneakers,” according to the DA’s office.

Survellience video from Brown’s Food Market, the site of the Dec. 27 alleged crime, show two suspects entering and robbing a store clerk. One of the suspects can be seen with a gun, and the other suspect with a black-and-white checkered coat - and distinctive lime-green, blue, and yellow sneakers.

Upon learning Dec. 30 that detectives intended on seizing a warrant to obtain his sneakers the next day, Broxton allegedly ripped apart pieces of his shoes and tried to flush them down the toilet of his cell. Court officers and a courthouse camera saw the alleged disposal attempt, and the sneakers were secured while a warrant was obtained.

Broxton is being held on $25,000 bail and has been ordered to wear a GPS monitor, remain in the state, stay away from the location of the robbery, and have no contact with the store’s clerk if he is released on bail.

His next scheduled court appearance is March 8.
