"While authorities continue the investigation of yesterday’s tragic events in Atlanta and the motive is not certain, it is clear that six of the eight victims are Asian. The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce denounces the anti-Asian violence that has surged during the pandemic. Nearly 3,800 violent crimes against Asian Americans have been reported in cities across the country. Racism and violence directed toward Asian Americans must be stopped. As the country and the Commonwealth look to vaccinations and a new beginning, we can’t look away from the Asian American community. Moving forward means prioritizing healing from the pandemic, suffering, loss, economic hardships and acts of divisive racism so we can all work, live, and thrive in peace together."
