As unemployment soars amid the new coronavirus pandemic, many Massachusetts companies are still looking to hire.
BOSTON — Since the new coronavirus pandemic shut down large swaths of the Massachusetts economy, unemployment levels have reached record highs every week.
The number of Massachusetts residents applying for first-time unemployment benefits during the week that ended May 2 was 55,488, according to Thursday's U.S. Department of Labor report. So far, 815,290 Massachusetts workers have filed for unemployment during the pandemic.
Despite unemployment levels climbing, a good number of employers are currently searching for workers in Massachusetts.

The employment site Indeed.com has listed scores of jobs that have opened even as the virus continues and many businesses remain closed.
