Hundreds Of Structurally Deficient Bridges In Massachusetts: See The Most Traveled
A study says 483 bridges are structurally deficient and 2,214 are functionally obsolete. We've got the list.

Everyone complains about the bridges they drive over every day. But in Massachusetts, our gripes carry a bit more weight.
Many of the bridges in Massachusetts are classified as structurally deficient or structurally obsolete, according to the National Bridge Inventory Database. (See list below for Massachusetts bridges.)
Of the 5,171 bridges in the state, 483 (9 percent) are "structurally deficient," meaning at least one of the bridge's key elements is in "poor" or worse condition. The Bay State ranks 20th in percentage of structurally deficient bridges and ranks 31st in overall number.

If that isn't bad enough, 2,214 bridges (43 percent) are "functionally obsolete," meaning they do not meet current design standards.
