The Jayhawks Set to Bring 40 Years of Americana Magic to Boston’s Shubert Theatre This Fall
The Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame presents an evening celebrating the band's upcoming album, "Sanctuary Park,".
Pioneer Americana mainstays The Jayhawks are heading to the historic Boch Center Shubert Theatre on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for a special performance celebrating their upcoming studio album, Sanctuary Park. Presented by the Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame (FARHOF), the performance lands in the midst of a momentous milestone for the band as they mark 40 years of delivering timeless, genre-defying melodies.
Fans can get a first taste of the new music today with the release of the lead single, “Keeping Our Heads Above Water.” Sanctuary Park is scheduled to officially drop on August 28th via Thirty Tigers.
For this latest project, The Jayhawks reunited with legendary producer Bob Ezrin (celebrated for his iconic work with Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, and Lou Reed), who previously helmed the band's critically acclaimed 2000 album, Smile. Attracted by the band's signature sweetness and intricate songcraft, Ezrin invited the group to his hometown of Toronto to record. The resulting album leans heavily into the band's greatest strengths: the natural, unspoken musical chemistry and needle-perfect three-part harmonies shared between Gary Louris, Karen Grotberg, Tim O’Reagan, and Marc Perlman.

While the album's title tracks back to a physical location in Dundas, Ontario—deeply influenced by Louris’s life as a permanent Canadian resident alongside his wife, Stephanie—Sanctuary Park also serves as a thematic backdrop. The songs explore themes of nostalgia, rekindled relationships, and moving past old regrets toward new possibilities.
Steeped in a rich 40-year history that began in the post-punk scene of Minneapolis, The Jayhawks helped lay the absolute groundwork for modern Americana. Over four decades, they have graced the stages of major festivals worldwide and served as the trusted backup band for visionaries like Johnny Cash, Ray Davies, and Roger McGuinn. This October, their enduring songcraft finds a perfect home inside the Shubert Theatre, courtesy of FARHOF's continued mission to honor America's musical heritage.
