This MA Italian Restaurant Is Top 10 In America, Daily Meal Says
It's in a former jailhouse, it has a full mozzarella bar and it's one of the best Italian restaurants in the country, the Daily Mail says.
A restaurant inside a former Boston jailhouse that boasts a mozzarella bar is one of the very best Italian restaurants in the country, according to the Daily Meal. The big-time foodie site released its list of the top 50 Italian restaurants in the country, and it listed Scampo as the ninth-best in America. No other Massachusetts restaurants made the list.
James Beard Award-winning chef Lydia Shire runs Scampo, which the Daily Meal lauds for its willingness to bring in new flavors than that of a traditional restaurant. Part of that is the full "mozzarella bar" with five mozzarella-based dishes.
"While Italian at heart, Shire isn’t afraid to incorporate a tandoori oven or Spanish ibèrico ham into the mix, and the menu is fun and playful. Handmade breads come in seven varieties," the Daily Meal said.
