MA Schools, Districts Report 202 New Coronavirus Cases

MASSACHUSETTS — Ninety-eight Massachusetts school districts reported coronavirus cases among staff and students from Oct. 15 to Oct. 21, up from 73 districts the week before, according to new district-by-district coronavirus data released by the state Thursday. Three approved special education schools and three educational collaboratives reported cases.

Of 202 total new cases, 129 were students and 73 were staff.

Only in-person and hybrid students and staff with building access were counted toward district numbers. The state estimated that there are 525,000 people in those two categories.

Six districts and schools reported five or more cases. Methuen, with seven cases, and Lincoln-Sudbury, with six, were the only districts with more than five cases.

Fifty districts reported just one case and 302 reported none at all. Twenty-two educational collaboratives and 99 special education schools reported zero cases.
