MA Snow Totals, Power Outages: Did That Storm Even Hit?

That "Four'easter" was more like a "Bore'easter," but we'll take it.

Unless you're complaining that the weather people sent us all into a bread-and-milk frenzy for no reason or you're a parent who is staying at home thanks to an eager beaver superintendent, then rejoice! It appears the "Four'easter" storm was a huge flop. And after three major storms this month, we'll take it.

As of 10 a.m., 160 homes across Massachusetts were without power, despite warnings that some areas - particularly Southeastern Mass. and the Cape, could face severe outages. An hour earlier this morning, there were more than 1,600 without power. For the more than 1 million who lost power this month, you can exhale now.

Snow did still fall - though likely not enough to justify the nearly two dozen school cancelations and more than 100 flight cancellations and delays at Logan. If you get more than 3 inches today, consider yourself unlucky.

Meteorologists have been scrambling online to explain away the flubbed forecast with some technical mumbo-jumbo. It boils down to this: Sometimes, the forecasts are wrong, because predicting the weather is insanely complicated.

The National Weather Service released unofficial snow totals below. The first number is how many inches fell, the second number is the time this morning it was measured:

If any more snow is to fall, it likely won't be sticking around for long. Temperatures will be rising until they get to the low-mid 40s this afternoon.

So have we turned a corner? The worst "snow" doesn't appear again in the forecast through April 5. The high temperature over the next 10 days is 57 degrees on March 29 - which is Opening Day for the Red Sox.
