MA Weather: 33 Hours Of Serious Heat

The only thing that may stop a dreadful heat wave are more showers and storms.

Set your air conditioner timer until 8 p.m. Tuesday. That's when a nearly statewide heat advisory going into effect Monday will finally expire. Until then, the region is expected to be beset by oppressive temperatures in the 90s and heat indices in the triple digits.

The heat advisory is for all of Massachusetts except for the Cape and Islands. It goes into effect at 11 a.m. Monday and will last for 33 hours. During that time, the National Weather Service encourages you to not take the heat lightly.

"Heat is a SERIOUS danger, killing on average 100+ people each year nationwide," the NWS tweeted Monday morning. "Stay hydrated, dress in light-weight light-colored clothes, and visit air-conditioned spaces."

While this kind of heat stands out, you can expect above-average temperatures all the way into October, the NWS said Monday morning in the forecast agency's three-month outlook.
