MA Weather: 60-Degree Swing Next Week As Temperatures Shoot Up

February is historically a very cold, snowy month, but it'll start off a bit more like March.

Winter isn't nearly over yet, but at least that brutal cold spell is. The polar vortex that brought so much misery to so many people has snapped, and people will get the opportunity to enjoy winter outside next week.

Every day from Super Bowl Sunday to Friday has high temperatures over 40 degrees, with some reaching the mid-50s. In some places, that will be close to a 60-degree temperature swing in a matter of days.

That isn't to say to bust out the flip-flops. Boston's average high in February is 39 degrees, with the average low being 25 degrees. That's according to currentresults.com, which took the Boston averages from 1980-2010 from the NOAA National Climatic Data Center.

And even though Boston has gotten far less snow than it usually does this winter, February is historically a fairly snowy month. Snow falls on an average of about five days in February for an average total of 10.9 inches, according to currentresults.

We will likely stay in the clear the rest of next week.

"Highs should reach well above normal early next week before colder weather returns by [Wednesday,]" the National Weather Service said. "Next real chance for precipitation will be late next week."
