MA Weather Forecast: Nor'easter's Last-Minute Changes

The forecast has taken a quick change that you should be aware of before you make storm-related plans.

We know you know there will be another nor'easter tomorrow. But the National Weather Service late Tuesday afternoon released a couple weather maps with last-minute changes to their morning forecast. If you were planning on adjusting your work or children's school commute based on the storm's timing and amount of snow, you should take a peek.

For starters, it appears the storm will begin a bit later than originally thought. The new precipitation onset times released by NWS push back the storm about three hours, meaning it should creep into Massachusetts from the south between 8 and 9 a.m. and reach the northern tip of the state at about 6 p.m. In Boston, it will hit at about 3 p.m.

The expected snowfall amounts also changed — mostly for the better. Areas that were expected to get 8 to 12 inches are now likely to get closer to 4 to 8. The problem is that pretty much all of Central and Eastern Mass. is the "area of greatest uncertainty" — and in recent storms, those areas have ultimately seen higher snowfall totals than originally anticipated. It's believed the highest snow totals will be south of the Pike in Eastern Mass.

The NWS also says Southeastern Mass., Plymouth County and the Cape is the area with the highest risk for downed tree limbs and power lines, all of which lead to power outages — including more than a million this month.
