MA Weather: Details On Approaching Nor'easter

We are likely to get hammered, but forecasters are anticipating we avoid the first major snow of the year. Here are the details.

A nor'easter will indeed hit New England this weekend, but forecasters are saying to expect primarily rain, not snow. Lots and lots of rain.

One to 2 inches of rain is expected to fall over the weekend, accompanied by wind gusts of between 40-60 miles per hour. The storm is expected begin Saturday morning and last into Sunday morning.

Though the storm isn't "likely match the impact of the late-October storm from 2011, it will still pack a punch," according to AccuWeather.

That pre-Halloween storm saw a lot of heavy, wet snow. That isn't expected to be the case this time around, but this year's storm could still produce a ton of power outages due to the wind. It's going to be in part energized by what was Category 5 Hurricane Wilma.

The temperatures in the eastern part of the state are expected to be in the high 40s and low 50s, so we'll dodge the first snow of the year. Good thing, too, because that area is expected to get the worst of the wind and rain. There still could be some snow - especially in higher terrains in Western Massachusetts.
