MA Weather: Weekend Nor'easter Possible

It doesn't necessarily mean the first snow, but there's one variable that could swing things.

What's scarier in the days leading to Halloween than a potential nor'easter? Early forecasts are already tossing the word around for a storm that could make its way up the East Coast this weekend.

This weekend's possible nor'easter doesn't necessarily mean the first snowstorm of the year. While there could be high-terrain snow in Western Massachusetts and northern New England, Central and Eastern Massachusetts would likely see a miserably cold, windy stretch of rain.

The National Weather Service said one variable to keep an eye on would be low temperatures. Friday could see the coldest air of the season, the NWS said, and, "If this air hangs around into the weekend, it'll be interesting as to possible outcomes [with] a potential Nor'Easter on tap."

The forecast is still early, and Weather.com says its possible the storm's impact is minimized if it stays offshore.

If it does hit, it could ruin outdoor and travel plans during the last weekend of October.

"A period of heavy rain is most likely along the coast," AccuWeather Meteorologist Evan Duffey said. "Coastal areas may have to contend with beach erosion and flooding at time of high tide. Wet snow is possible over the higher terrain across the interior. Impacts from gusty winds from the strengthening storm could be a factor throughout the region."

There is also the potential for significant snow to impact the northern part of the region midweek, according to AccuWeather. That's likely to not impact Massachusetts - or Game 1 of the World Series Tuesday night at Fenway Park, where it could be in the low 40s.
