MA Weather: Winter Weather Advisory In Advance Of Sloppy Storm
For 12 hours, most of Massachusetts will be under a winter weather advisory despite only a relative dusting of snow. Here's why.

A winter weather advisory has been been called for nearly all of Massachusetts in advance of tonight's sloppy storm. The winter weather advisory, which is warning of mixed precipitation and "hazardous conditions" impacting the Thursday morning commute, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. All but the Cape and Islands will be under it advisory, with those areas instead being under a hazardous weather outlook.
The storm is still only expected to bring a relative dusting to Massachusetts, just 1-2 inches across the state, with perhaps slightly more in northern Essex County. The snow begins between 7-10 p.m. Much of the concern is on what happens after, when it turns to sleet and freezing rain overnight. Forecasters are expecting a thin lining of ice to accumulate.
"Mixed precipitation expected," the National Weather Service said. "Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch expected."
