BOSTON, MA — Fishermen on the America vessel were heading into port before dawn Tuesday when the bright orange hue of a life vest alerted them to a man in the rough water far off the coast of Boston, NBC10 reported.

The America crew pulled the man—who had fallen from an oil tanker— from the ocean and began to perform CPR, according to the outlet.

The oil tanker had put out a mayday signal after the man fell overboard, and America began searching the pitch-dark water as they happened to be the closest ship to the tanker, NBC10 reported.
