Two manhole covers exploded due to flooding, a spokesperson for the school told Patch Wednesday afternoon.

BOSTON, MA — Two cars were damaged near Boston's Northeastern University campus Wednesday after two manhole covers exploded due to flooding, a spokesperson for the school told Patch.

No injuries were reported and there was no major disruption to campus operations, the spokesperson said.

However, dining service in the university’s Stetson East building is temporarily moved to the International Village due to traffic restrictions limiting access to Stetson dining halls.

"We're responding to an underground issue involving two manholes on St. Stephens Street in Boston and working with our public safety partners to make the area safe," Eversource said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon. "The substantial rainfall overnight likely played a role—we'll look into the exact cause while crews make repairs.

"To make the area safe and begin repairs, we had to de-energize the line and two apartment buildings and are without power. We have generators on the way to restore power to these buildings while our crews complete their work."
