Mark Wahlberg Is The World's Highest-Paid Actor: Forbes

Marky Mark topped Forbes' 2017 list thanks to star turns in the "Transformers" and "Daddy's Home" franchises. See who else made the list.

BOSTON, MA – What Mark Wahlberg's latest movies lack in critical acclaim, they make up for in box office draw. The Dorchester native was named Forbes' highest-paid actor in 2017, earning an estimated $68 million between June 2016 and June 2017.

During that time Wahlberg has starred in the Peter Berg-directed "Deepwater Horizon" and "Patriots Day," as well as the latest installment in the "Transformers" franchise and the upcoming "Daddy's Home 2."

While the former films were hailed by critics for their re-tellings of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill and the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, the latter two earned Wahlberg the big bucks, according to Forbes. "Transformers: The Last Knight," the fifth film in the "Transformers" series, was widely panned, and "Daddy's Home 2" is not expected to fare much better with critics.

Wahlberg dethroned last year's highest-paid actor (and his "Pain and Gain" co-star), Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who fell to second place with $65 million in earnings. Rounding out the top five are Vin Diesel, Adam Sandler and Jackie Chan.

In addition to Chan, who dominates the Chinese market, the list includes three Bollywood actors.

Emma Stone, the highest-paid actress in 2017, earned a spot at No. 15 with $26 million, followed by Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lawrence.

Ben Affleck and Johnny Depp, both Top 10 earners in 2016, were left off the list this year absent any major blockbusters to their names. Affleck saw the largest box office haul of his career with 2016's "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice," and though Depp's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" came out in May, his paycheck hit last year.

Matt Damon, who racked up $55 million from 2015-2016 with "The Martian," "Jason Bourne" and "The Great Wall," fell from No. 3 to No. 16 this year.

Below are the Top 10 highest-paid actors in the world in 2017, according to Forbes:

  1. Mark Wahlberg; $68 million
  2. Dwayne Johnson; $65 million
  3. Vin Diesel; $54.5 million
