Massachusetts Weather Forecast: Major Storm Could Deliver Glancing Blow
Some parts of the state will see nor'easter-level winds. You'll want to stay away from the coast if possible.

While one of the most powerful storms to ever make landfall in America continues to batter southeast Texas, a separate storm churning up the coast looks as if it will deliver a glancing blow to Massachusetts. The storm is expected to be far enough off the coast as to not impact interior Massachusetts beyond a very windy night with a little rain, but the Cape Cod region may see winds of 50+ miles per hour.
The storm is known as Potential Tropical Cyclone 10. It was originally known as 92L when it was pouring down on Florida, and it may eventually become Tropical Storm Irma as it continues to roll. Whatever its called, it far pales in comparison to Harvey, which has proved deadly in the Houston area.
Still, the storm making its way up the coast is no joke. Fortunately it's far out enough where interior Massachusetts should just have to deal with strong winds and potentially some minor overnight rain. The waters off the Cape, however, are under a storm warning with 50+ miles per hour winds and waves of up to 10 feet possible, the National Weather Service said. The coast from up to New Hampshire is under a small craft advisory.

The rain isn't too much of a threat. Most areas may just see a little bit overnight until about 7 a.m. A late change in the forecast around 6 p.m. Tuesday shifted the wind gust estimates down quite a bit; You can see your area below.

"Winds around the disturbance are right around tropical storm force, so just a small amount of organization will bring it to tropical storm status," according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.
A non-tropical system will help add wind along the coast from Virginia to Massachusetts into Wednesday, AccuWeather said.
"Because of the blend of tropical and non-tropical characteristics, the system may be dubbed a sub-tropical storm as it moves along," Kottlowski said.
As Harvey begins to move, New England could get a good soaking. That currently appears possible for Labor Day weekend. We'll keep you updated throughout the week.
