Massachusetts Weather Forecast: Nor'easter Detailed, When Rain Will Fall

Here's when you can expect the worst of the incoming storm.

The drought is over, but the rain isn't stopping. In fact, this weekend's ominous forecast of rainfall has only intensified. The nor'easter is coming, and the worst of it will be undoubtedly be Sunday (Mother's Day.) It will be windy, rainy and just "truly lousy" in general, according to Weather.com.

The gist of the forecast is as follows: If you have anything to do outdoors this weekend with mom, do it early Saturday. You've got virtually no chance after Saturday afternoon (think about 5-6 p.m. as the cutoff) until about midweek. The weather system is coming up from below us, so the farther north you are, the longer into Saturday you'll have.

Forecasts have the rain starting in earnest around 6 p.m. and intensifying overnight into Sunday, which will be an all-day washout. The rain is expected to continue into at least Monday, resulting in a total of up to 3 inches for areas around the state. That much in such a short amount of time brings with it the threat of localized flooding.

It won't be a warm or calm rain. Highs will be in the 40s on Sunday and wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour are possible, particularly closer to the Cape and coast.

The good news comes after the storm. Temperatures Tuesday may break 70, and Wednesday and Thursday are going to flirt with 80 degrees.
