Melrose Getting New Fire Chief

MELROSE, MA — Melrose is soon to get a new Fire Chief. Captain Ed Collina has been appointed by Mayor Gail Infurna to succeed Chris Leary, who will retire April 27. Collina still needs to be confirmed by the Board of Alderman.

Five captains of the Melrose Fire Department applied and interviewed for the job, each impressing Infurna. "Melrose is fortunate to have such a professional, dedicated group of leaders in the Fire Department," she said in a release.

Collina was chosen based on his 32 years of working in the fire and EMS field in Melrose; performing "virtually every role" in the department; his leadership; and more.

Collina told Infurna during the interview process, "It is a point of pride that crews under my command have always been well trained, performed their duties skillfully, and operated as a safety team."
