Most Democratic, Republican Counties in Massachusetts?

We always vote Democrat, but that doesn't mean we're blue through and through.

You don't get all that much more blue than the Bay State. That was as evident as ever on Sept. 8, State Primary Day.

While Donald Trump likely won't be taking Massachusetts next month, it won't be a Hillary Clinton shutout either. Some counties still lean more blue than others.

So how to figure out which is which? 24/7 Wall St. created an index from different political data in each country: County representation in the U.S. House of Representatives over the past five congressional cycles; state representation in the U.S. Senate in the past five congressional cycles; and the share of votes cast in the 2012 election between President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Only counties that cast more than 2,000 votes were considered. For more on the methodology, click here.

Here's how it shook out for the most Democratic and Republican counties in the state.

Most Republican County: Plymouth

Massachusetts had the sixth-highest percentage of voters go with Obama in 2012, despite Romney's Massachusetts connections. Romney got the most love in Plymouth county, which is considered the most Republican county for pretty much just the fact that he got 47.5 percent of the county's votes. The state's share of the House and Senate seats are all occupied by Democrats.

Most Democratic County: Berkshire

Here's the real competition. Obama won 75.8 percent of the votes in Berkshire County, second only to Suffolk County's 77.6 percent. Berkshire sent Democrats to the House of Representatives in each of the past five congressional elections.
