Every summer you hear people groaning about it being "the hottest summah evahhh." This year, they might actually be right.

This past month was the hottest July in Boston on record, the National Weather Service confirmed Thursday morning ... and it wasn't even close. The average temperature in Boston was 78.7 degrees, almost a full degree higher than the previous record of 78.0 degrees set in 1983.

The 78.7 figure is taken from the average between day and night temperatures. There have been years with higher daily high temperatures, WBUR reported.
