Smoking Could Get Sex Offender Sent Back To Puerto Rico

A 28-year-old man with a warrant out for his arrest wasn't exactly to stay under cover.

BOSTON, MA — A sex offender could be on his way back to Puerto Rico after being caught smoking a cigarette inside the MBTA's Chinatown station.

Transit Police said that on Sunday around 10;30 a.m. patrol officers noticed a man who would be later identified as 28-year-old Jonathan Santiago. Santiago was smoking inside the station near the south entrance.

Officers approached to give Santiago a citation and discovered her was wanted in Ponce, Puerto Rico for failure to register as a sex offender. Transit Police confirmed with Puerto Rican authorities the warrant was extraditable.

Santiago was arrested for being a fugitive from justice.
