MA Weather: Strong Storms, Flash Flooding Loom In Forecast

Isolated severe thunderstorms are expected the majority of the day, the National Weather Service said.

MASSACHUSETTS — A stormy Monday is expected to give way to a slightly cooler week after a stretch of high temperatures and humidity.

Strong, isolated thunderstorms are expected across central and eastern Massachusetts throughout the afternoon. The National Weather Service said the storms will pop in and out between noon and 8 p.m. See the simulated radar below for more information.

The weather service warned of localized flash flooding and damaging wind gusts.

Here is what latest forecast for the Boston area Monday:

Monday - A chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 10am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday night - Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers after 4am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

There will be a chance of rain every day this week until Saturday.

Temperatures will dip a bit from Monday, with highs Wednesday stalling out in the mid-70s. Temperatures will rebound to 90 over the weekend.

New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night - A slight chance of showers before 9pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9pm and 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday - A slight chance of showers before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 62. East wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Thursday - Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday Night - A chance of showers after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Friday - Showers likely, mainly before 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
