Taxi Driver Dead, Passenger Injured After Crash: Police

The cab veered off the road and hit a tree near the Boston-Cambridge border, according to police.

BOSTON — A taxi driver died and a passenger was injured late Saturday near the Boston-Cambridge border, according to state police.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m., when the 68-year-old driver, who was traveling west on Soldier Field Road, lost control of the taxi — a Toyota Camry — near the Weeks Footbridge, then veered off the road and hit a tree, police said.

The man, a Lynn resident, was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. His passenger, a 24-year-old Cambridge woman on her way home from Logan Airport, was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
