Top Public Companies in Massachusetts: Forbes

More than $330 billion worth of companies make up the Massachusetts portion of the newest Forbes list.

BOSTON, MA - Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway is number one on Forbes' inaugural list of America's top public companies, and 90 more companies are listed before finally getting to a Massachusetts one. But 13 Bay State companies are still among the top 500.

In Massachusetts, Thermo Fisher Scientific, located in Waltham, was deemed the top public company. Thermo Fisher Scientific is a precision healthcare equipment company which employs 52,000 and is worth about $60 billion, according to Forbes. (Subscribe to your local Patch for more news near you)

Forbes' methodology weighs revenue, profit, assets and market value equally. "Weighing these four metrics equally helps account for nuances in the myriad ways that investors value a company," according to Forbes.

While the rankings released by Forbes in May are an inaugural list, the magazine drew some comparisons with the Forbes' Global 2000 list, which ranks the public companies across the world.
