Transit Is Essential Coalition Calls for MBTA Safety, Funding
In wake of station failures and train derailments, a Thursday morning State House rally demands accountability and immediate action.

Advocates, riders, municipal leaders, and others will join the Transit Is Essential coalition at the State House on Thursday morning, September 30 to call on state officials to take immediate action on public transportation safety and funding.
Official statement from Transit is Essential:
“The time for action is now. The recent derailment, ongoing issues on the Orange Line and Red Line, and dangerous conditions on station stairs and escalators throughout the MBTA system are consequences of long-term disinvestment in our public transit network. Our hearts go out to the people directly affected by these incidents.”

“A safe and reliable transit system is critical to our recovery, and more important than ever. Unsafe conditions on public transit must not contribute to reduced ridership. We call on the Legislature and the Governor to take action before another preventable, foreseeable failure results in more injuries. The Governor must appoint a new governing body immediately to replace the FMCB, which expired on June 30, and, in this term of office, take sweeping actions to properly fund the MBTA.”
