Gyllenhaal stars as Jeff Bauman, who lost both his legs in the attack and became a symbol of Boston's resilience.

BOSTON, MA – Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Jeff Bauman in the upcoming drama "Stronger," the true story of Bauman's recovery after losing both of his legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The 27-year-old Boston man was at the Marathon finish line when the bombs went off, killing three and injuring more than 260 people.
Many people in Boston know Bauman from the iconic photo of him in a wheel chair at the finish line, dazed and pale from loss of blood, as Carlos Arredondo, the cowboy hat-wearing man who helped him, runs alongside.
Tatiana Maslany stars alongside Gyllenhaal as Bauman's ex-girlfriend Erin Hurley, who was running in the marathon at the time of the attack. Hurley, along with Bauman's family, were an integral part of his recovery, which became a symbol of Boston's resiliency in the wake of the bombing.
