1. MIAA rankings show where Cape and Islands teams stand in playoff race (capecodtimes.com) — Bourne High and the Bourne/Mashpee/Wareham co-op teams are firmly on the MIAA radar, with several squads appearing in the first statewide power rankings of the fall season. From football to soccer and field hockey, the early standings show where Bourne programs stack up against Cape and Islands rivals as the playoff race begins to take shape.
2. Daily News Briefs: Tuesday, September 29, 2026 (tollroadsnews.com) — MassDOT has issued an RFP to replace the Sagamore Bridge and already secured major federal funding, while still awaiting over $1 billion more for a future Bourne Bridge replacement. For Bourne residents, that means long-term plans are advancing to modernize both canal crossings, though construction on Sagamore won't start until late 2027 at the earliest.
3. Starbucks closes 250 shops nationwide. Cape Cod locations to remain open. (capecodtimes.com) — While Starbucks is closing more than 250 shops across North America, none of the 11 Cape Cod locations, including the one in Bourne, are on the chopping block. The company says it's targeting underperforming stores, while union leaders push to protect affected workers and negotiate placements at other locations.
4. Flock cameras removed from Cape and Islands, but other cameras remain (capeandislands.org) — State police automatic license plate readers have been operating on the Bourne and Sagamore bridges since 2015, even as local Flock camera contracts on Cape Cod have been canceled. Barnstable and Dennis have now deactivated their Flock systems amid privacy concerns, while a recent court ruling may soon force more transparency about where state cameras are located and how they're used.
