BRAINTREE, MA — Police arrested one person for shoplifting and carjacking Saturday evening at South Shore Plaza, and were searching for another person on related charges.
The two fled the shopping mall as Braintree police investigated the shoplifting report around 6:25 p.m., according to a statement.
The individuals ran toward a nearby highway to avoid being apprehended, then tried to “enter multiple vehicles” traveling in the area of the Braintree Split – the junction of Interstate 93, US Route 1 and MA Route 3.
Luis Eduardo Cardenas Travieso, 29, of New York, now faces charges of shoplifting, larceny, carjacking, resisting arrest, providing false identification and possessing a theft-detection-shield device.
The investigation was continuing and police were still searching for the other person.
“At this time, we do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public,” they said in the statement.
State police and the Quincy Police Department assisted in the response.
