BRAINTREE, MA —Braintree is getting a major boost in energy reliability thanks to a multimillion-dollar grant.
On Monday, the town announced it had been awarded $2.5 million through the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources' Advancing Massachusetts Power (AMP) Energy Storage Grant Program.
The funding will help strengthen energy infrastructure at the Department of Public Works, according to a Facebook post by the town.
But the benefits won't stop there.
The grant will also support the installation of a battery energy storage system designed to improve power reliability and help keep critical municipal operations running during power outages and severe weather such as snowstorms.
The investment is expected to strengthen Braintree's ability to respond to emergencies while reducing the risk of disruptions to essential town services.
In its Facebook post, the town thanked those who helped secure the funding, including the Healey-Driscoll administration and state Rep. Mark Cusack.
