Barnstable Man Chokes Woman, Threatens Her With Shotgun: Police

Prosecutors said a West Barnstable man choked a woman and threatened her life with a shotgun.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A West Barnstable man was arraigned in Barnstable District Court after prosecutors said he choked a woman and threatened her with a shotgun. Jamah Peters, 34, was charged Tuesday with kidnapping, strangulation or suffocation, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, possessing a firearm with a firearm identification card, firearm violation with three prior violent or drug crimes and intimidating a witness. Peters pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Police told the Cape Cod Times they were called to the YMCA on Iyannough Road after a woman said she was assaulted after walking inside. According to police, the woman was also attacked by Peters the previous night and said she was was choked and and her life was threatened when Peters allegedly pointed a shotgun at her head.

Peters was ordered held without bail until a dangerousness hearing Feb. 21.
