190 Grams Of Cocaine, Fentanyl Seized In Brockton Arrest: PD

Brockton police said they seized 150 grams of cocaine, almost 43 grams of fentanyl, 29 Xanax pills and a gun stolen out of Weymouth.

BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton man was arrested after police said they seized about 190 grams of cocaine and fentanyl and a stolen gun. Ruben Depina, 19, was charged with trafficking cocaine, trafficking fentanyl, unlawful carrying of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession with intent to distribute a class E drug.

Police said they were patrolling the 40th block of of Hillberg Avenue Thursday afternoon because of a recent rise in crime out of a home on that street. Last Monday, police said a shooting damaged the home. While on patrol, police said they saw a someone pick up Depina, drive around the block and drop him off in front of a random home.

"These actions raise suspicions because drug dealers often take what's called 'a ride to nowhere,' which gives ample time for to sell or supply illegal drugs during the short trip," Officer Darren Duarte said in a statement.

When Depina saw police, he threw a gun in an attempt to hide it, but officers found it and discovered it was stolen out of Weymouth, according to police. Police said they searched Depina's house and care and seized almost 150 grams of cocaine, almost 43 grams of fentanyl and 29 Xanax pills.

Depina was arraigned in Brockton District Court Friday.
