580 Grams Of Fentanyl Seized In Brockton Drug Bust: PD

BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton man was arrested after police said they seized 580 grams of fentanyl, 20 grams of crack cocaine, and an illegal gun.. Kyle Melara, 23, was charged with trafficking fentanyl and cocaine, unlawful possession of ammunition, a firearm violation with two prior drug crimes, and possession of a class B drug.

At 6:28 a.m. Tuesday, police searched Melara's Leavitt Street home and said they seized five heat-sealed bags of fentanyl from a shoe box in a bedroom closet. Police said the bags weighed 105, 111, 113, 107, and 108 grams. Police said they found another 6.2 grams of fentanyl inside a sneaker and 11 bags of cocaine in a bag.

State Police assisting with the raid searched a winter coat and found 32.2 grams of fentanyl, 14.1 grams of cocaine, and a pill bottle containing 54 suboxone strips, according to Brockton police. Police said they also found a loaded pistol in the center console of a BMW parked in the driveway.

"I’m thankful that our narcotics unit was able to make a key arrest and stop a large amount of fentanyl and other illegal drugs from hitting the streets," Brockton police Lt. Ken Legrice, said in a statement. "Anytime we can get drugs and guns off the streets means we helped save lives."

Melara was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in Brockton District Court.
