Pedestrian seriously injured in Brockton crash on Belmont Street (wcvb.com) — A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle on Belmont Street in Brockton Friday night, and police say the driver stayed at the scene. The victim was hospitalized with severe injuries, and investigators are still determining what caused the crash and whether any charges will follow.
2. Plymouth County couple indicted, accused of spending money meant for homeless man on themselves (fallriverreporter.com) — Prosecutors in Brockton say a Bridgewater couple has been indicted after allegedly misusing more than $17,000 raised on GoFundMe that donors believed would help house an unhoused man. The pair faces several felony charges and is expected to be arraigned in Brockton Superior Court at a later date.
3. Six-pack of titles for St. John's Prep, and Lexington girls crowned at MSTCA D1 relays (bostonglobe.com) — Brockton High’s girls track squad made the results sheet at the MSTCA Division 1 relays in New Bedford, with Shamieya Cudjoe helping the Boxers place 14th in the shuttle hurdles relay. The meet was dominated by St. John’s Prep on the boys’ side and Lexington on the girls’, but Brockton athletes gained valuable big-meet experience against top statewide competition.
4. Fest Film Reviews: IFFBoston Round-Up (artsfuse.org) — Brockton readers will recognize Kevin McCaskill, principal of Brockton High School, who joined a post-screening talk at IFFBoston to explain the school’s strict phone-locking policy aimed at curbing digital distraction. The review covers two documentaries on political interference in education and social media’s toll on teens, plus several arts-focused shorts with strong Boston-area connections.
