Massachusetts Men Plead to Bank Fraud And Money Laundering Scheme In MA And RI (patch.com) — A Brockton man, Victor Kolawole, has pleaded guilty in a multi-state bank fraud and money laundering scheme that targeted customers of local banks in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Prosecutors say he and a Lowell accomplice deposited hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraudulent cashier’s checks, with Kolawole’s sentencing set for July 23. The scheme allegedly relied on stolen personal data, fake IDs, and bank insiders who bypassed verification rules.    

2. Brockton fair offers free health and wellness activities (enterprisenews.com) — Brockton residents can join a free health and wellness fair on May 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 165 Quincy St. The event offers screenings, fitness sessions, games, music, food, and connections to local mental health and community resources for individuals and families.    

3. Tax-Exempt Bonds Help High Point Treatment Center Expand Operations (connectcre.com) — Brockton residents could see expanded mental health and substance use services as High Point Treatment Center uses $25 million in tax-exempt bonds to upgrade its Brockton site. The financing, backed by MassDevelopment and Rockland Trust, will also fund improvements in Barnstable and Plymouth, aiming to reach more clients across southeastern Massachusetts.    

4. 14 healthcare labor updates in April (beckersphysicianleadership.com) — Nurses and healthcare workers at BMC South in Brockton have pulled back a planned three-day strike after making progress in contract talks, but say they can still resubmit a strike notice if needed. Their situation is part of a broader wave of healthcare labor actions nationwide, from New Orleans to California and New York.    

5. Fall River man killed crossing street in Brockton (wpri.com) — A Fall River man died after being struck while crossing Belmont Street in Brockton, where police say he was outside a crosswalk in a poorly lit area. The 55-year-old victim later died at the hospital, and the driver was evaluated medically. No charges have been filed as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances of the crash.
