Boston Man Found Guilty in Brockton Shooting

BROCKTON, MA — A former Boston man has been found guilty of an Assault to Murder and gun charges in the non-fatal shooting of a Brockton man, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

After a 7-day trial, a jury deliberated five and a half hours before finding Terrance Johnson, 28, guilty of assault to murder, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of a loaded firearm. Plymouth Superior Court Judge Brian Davis set sentencing for May 11, 2017 and Johnson is in custody.

On June 8, 2015, at approximately 4 p.m., Brockton Police were dispatched to 18 Grove St. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, police found the gunshot victim had already been transported to Brockton Hospital by a good samaritan. The male victim suffered from a gunshot wound to the upper left chest and survived his injury.

Witnesses at the apartment building reported seeing an individual with a red shirt running to the front porch at the time of the shooting. Police locate five shell casings from the sidewalk which match a loaded Hi-Point 9 mm handgun concealed inside a trash can in the basement of the apartment building. Also located was a red sweatshirt on the floor close to where the firearm was found.

Through interviews, police determined that the victim and Johnson knew each other and had exchanged angry texts earlier that day. Johnson’s girlfriend identified him to police as the person wearing the red shirt police found in the apartment’s basement.
