Man Carjacked Woman with Infant at Gunpoint: Police

Police say that Jose Robles stole the car at the Westgate Mall, and led police on a pursuit that ended in Stoughton.

BROCKTON, MA - A Taunton man was arrested after stealing a car from a woman with an infant at the Westgate Mall, police said

Jose Robles, 32, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license, and failure to stop for police, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

Shortly before noon, police in Brockton received a report of an armed carjacking at the mall. While the victim was putting her infant child into a car seat, Robles demanded the car keys from her while aiming a gun at her.

At 12:01 p.m., a trooper located the vehicle and the suspect on Arch Street in Brockton before a pursuit of the vehicle was authorized and continued into Stoughton.

The suspect crashed his car on Boylston Street and fled on foot. About 30 seconds later, Robles was taken into custody.
