Brockton Housemasters Now Deans
Tony Branch, chairman of the Brockton Diversity Commission, said the term conjures slavery.

BROCKTON, MA — Amid concerns that the term could be deemed offensive for the city's diverse community, the Brockton High School housemasters are getting a new name.
The Brockton School Committee recently voted to change the name to dean, according to the Enterprise. Assistant housemasters will now be assistant deans.
Tony Branch, chairman of the Brockton Diversity Commission, said the term conjures slavery and is inappropriate.

Brockton is the second city this year to drop the term. Both Newton North and South High Schools renamed their housemasters earlier this year.
